Zion National Park

A New State and Zion Rules

Utah is so different from all other States so far. Zionism rules everywhere, quite strange really, one hears about it but the experience is still a bit of a shock.

Amazing, absolutely amazing

A short distance from St. George via Route 9 one enters an amazing kaleidoscope of colours. (See Photographs)

I imagine it as if one was driving through a narrow Grand Canyon. I was completely blown away by the sheer beauty of the place. I will say no more and let the pictures speak for themselves, there are a lot and I make no apology. (See Photographs)

Will I go back, most certainly, definitely.

Escort

Half way through the Canyon is a narrow tunnel which I had to pre-arrange to have all downward traffic stopped by a park ranger , well worth the $15 for the privilege. (See Map)

It is 1.1 miles long, dark and very strange being alone in a long tunnel. I had seen semi-circular holes in the rock as I took photographs, little did I realise that they were the vent holes of the same tunnel.

After descending from the top of Zion National Park, 7,500ft I dropped down into Carmel Junction and discovered there that access to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon was closed and that it was 200 miles to the South Rim. The Grand Canyon will wait until the next visit.

Change of plans, take Route 89 to Bryce Canyon. (See Photographs)
