As well as the famous General Grant tree. There was a surprise in that a fallen tree with a rotted core was big enough to walk through upright. Also in the area was a log cabin that had the most amazing dovetail joints on the corners and even axe or adage marks could clearly be seen on the external timbers. The following morning I headed West again on Route 374 to Death Valley. I turned South on 190 to Furnace Creek and was then at 200ft below sea level. Further South is Badwater, as the name suggests it is a spring fed pool of sulphur, sodium and chloride, it is also the lowest point in the USA at 282ft below sea level. It is also the hottest place in the summer months. It was very hot that day at 35C and 23% humidity. (See Video) 640x480 5.1 MB

I first went to Bryce Canyon in the early morning light the scene was spectacular and the views to the distance were fantastic. I then went on to Rainbow point were I was privileged to be able to view and photograph Bristle Cone Pines perched on the rim. Again the views were spectacular and the colours hard to take in as they changed as I looked at them.
