Las Vegas to St George

More than I thought

I left Las Vegas with the intention of heading direct to Zion National Park. I soon found that I was in Lake Mead Nat. Rec. Area.and that Hoover Dam was very close by so in I went.

Lake Mead National Recreational Area

The area is based on the watershed for the Hoover Dam some 15 miles from the entrance. The main activity appeared to be boating on the vast Lake Mead. I took Route 515 to the dam an had to cross into Arizona before I turned around and headed back across to Nevada and then via Route 169 North along the West side of Lake Mead before joining Interstate 15. I continues to amaze me how diverse this country is. Even the unrecognised routes provide outstanding visual wonders and sights. (See Photographs)

Virgin River Canyon

Ok, hands up, who else has never heard of Virgin River Gorge. On Interstate 15 to St George out of of the shear cliff face appears a valley which cuts a fantastic path right through the Virgin Mountains. (See Photographs)

As I arrived into St. George I encountered three roundabouts within 100 yards, quite a suprise. I stayed the night at St. George ready for an early start to the Zion National Park.
