To The Grand Canyon

Change of Plans

It was my intention to head North through Utah but due to forecast cold weather on the way and a computer problem I had to return to Las Vegas and then decided to then head to the big hole in the ground called The Grand Canyon. It is fantastic, definitely a place to revisit, but not in the summer.

Fredonia

I made my way to St George again on Interstate 15 and turned East on Routes 8 and 89 along the back of Zion National park with the red coloured cliffs dominating the northern views and and stayed the night at Fredonia, just a short hop to then to the Grand Canyon. I also found a policeman dummy in a police car an the main street, a cheap way of speeding control. However as the town has a population of a few hundred you would think the locals would wise up!

To the Grand Canyon

I left early on Route 89 with the Vermilion Cliffs dominating the northern skyline (See Video) 640x480 (5.8MB). I came across the site of rock dwellers of old. (See Video) 640x480 (4.1MB) (See Video) 640x480 (1.5MB). I then turned south after crossing the Navajo Bridge over the Colorado River (See Map). Unfortunately I accidentally erased the Photographs. (See Video) 640x480 (8.9MB)

Along Route 89 I past The Eco Cliffs and Painted Desert (See Photographs) Before Turning West on 180 toward Little Colorado Canyon (See Photographs) (See Video) 640x480 (4.8MB) (See Video) 640x480 (2.5MB) (See Video) 640x480 (6.1MB).

On to The Grand Canyon. I first went to Desert View on the East side from the main viewpoint. (See Video) 640x480 (4.8MB) I then took a trek of about a half mile East to a rock outcrop poised vertically above the Canyon. What a sight, beautiful and quiet. (See Photographs) (See Video) 640x480 (8.0MB) (See Video) 640x480 (48.1MB)

I then traveled West and took some pictures from the many vantage points. (See Photographs)

On the advise of a local commercial photographer, who gave me one of his prints, I took a long mile trek to Shoshone Point, fantastic. (See Map) (See Photographs) (See Video) 640x480 (4.0MB) (See Video) 640x480 (4.0MB)

I stayed the night at The Grand Canyon Park hoping to take some more photographs but the clouds had come in and not suitable for photography so I headed South to Flagstaff to update the web pages, do my laundry and then head East to Monument Valley before heading back to Spokane.

One interesting thing happened whilst up there was the amount of static electricity, it was quite hot and humidity was at 10%.
