San Francisco to Morro Bay along the Sur Coastline
Fantastic Coastline
The views offered by this stretch of Highway are superb. Given a good se swells and surf, the waves on the rocks are majestic as they are mercilessly pounded. All the beach areas are a surfers paradise and the variety and number of eagles, hawks and vultures patrolling the sky a wonder to watch. Not to mention the seals.
The Sur, Highway 1
I was warned that the road was tricky and hilly, it certainly was but not as narrow, bendy or as steep as I found at the north of Highway 1. The big advantage here is that the roads are a lot wider. Having said that one has to keep a sharp look out for debris fallen from the cliff face.
The Scenery
This is a stunning piece of coastline offering different views around every bend in the road. The weather conditions were overcast with occasional showers for the first part of the road then it cleared up to glorious sunshine as we headed toward Morrow Bay were we stayed the night. The Seals
Once again we were treated to very close proximity to California Seals and in particular Elephant Seals. We came across them in a small bay and were able to stand on the low shoreline within 3 metres of them and the beach.
