Morro Bay to Taft

Coast, Farm Land and Oil

Whilst this was a short run to the Santa Barbara Coast the variety in landscape was huge. From the majestic coast through the flat farm lands to the residential areas of the Barbara Coast with the oil rigs in the bay. From sea level we took the route over Pine Mountain to the once oil rich badlands of Taft.

Farming

From Morro Bay we joined Highway 101 inland to Santa Mara and on to Lompoc where we tried to follow the coastal road again only to find our way blocked by the USA Air Force who test missiles and rockets in the area.

Santa Barbara Coast

The azure blue of the coast met us and we saw many oil rig platforms just off the coast. We traveled East along the coast and saw hang gliders unfortunately the increasing wind prevented us from seeing anyone launch themselves of the cliff. (See Video) 320x240 2.9MB

Pine Mountain

We headed North Highway 33 through the steep gorges and very gust winds that blew us around climbing from 11 metres to 1500 metres were we had snow and ice before plummeting down to the flat barren land of nodding donkeys and many that had run out of oil and were no longer alive.
