Hoh Rain Forest

A Hidden Jewel

Just a 15 mile drive of Highway 101 brings you to the heart of the National Parks hidden jewel, Hoh Rain Forest. The Campground was superb and we camped on the edge of the Hoh River. On Sunday we donned our boots and headed upriver into the forest some 3.5 miles.

The walk.

It is a gentle walk upriver for the first 5 miles, although we only made the first 3.5 miles to a set of waterfalls. We stopped many times to admire the unusual formations made by the lush vegetation hanging and growing from every available ledge, gully and sometimes impossible positions.

Other walks

There are many walks available, both short and long, but the overriding impression is of a primitive delicate environment, at times almost ghostly.
