Canyonlands National Park

Island in the Sky

Most people have never heard of the Canyonlands NP but it is a massive area carved out by the Colorado and Green Rivers. It seems wider than the Grand Canyon looking from the main plateau called the Island in the Sky and Dead Horse Point State Park gives superb panoramic vistas over both rivers.

To Moab

From Grand Teton we traveled South via Route 191, stopping overnight at Dutch Springs, to the town of Moab which we used as a base for our visits to Canyonlands and Arches National Park. (See Photos).

Moab

The town of Moab is some 10 miles south of Canyonlands and 3 miles Arches NP and is a great centre for exploring this area. (See Map, PDF)

Canyonlands

The vistas can be seen easily from the Island in the Sky plateau but this is only a fraction of the area open to exploration with a 4WD vehicle and those adventurous soles by backpack. (See Photos) Unfortunately we had a file corruption problem with most of our Canyonlands photographs.

Definitely a place to revisit and explore further.
